The Gardens Of La Ballue Castle

Listed as historical Monument, La Ballue Garden, is marked intrinsically by a sense of "wonder", a series of garden rooms, each with its own atmosphere, were designed in harmony with the château firmly rooted in the baroque culture.
The garden, as an extension or mirror of the mind, is a symbolic space filled with conceits and emblems. Variety and liveliness as characteristic of the baroque garden is achieved here by variation in all the structural elements, in scent and colour, in appearance and sounds and in the contemporary statues, mostly grotesques & monsters.

Weekend "Topiary, art and Mannerism" The exceptional gardening event of la Ballue ! Now in the 5th edition, this is a unique opportunity for visitors to watch different demonstrations of pruning and creating topiary in the gardens of la Ballue.All the gardeners will demonstrate their considerable skill, showing some of the techniques they use to prune and sculpt the many bushes ans trees. A range of these tools, an explanation of their use and maintenance will be available for viewing in the "tool" workshop. The architect of the gardens and topiary spécialist Hubert Puzenat will sculpt various shapes and will also be signing copies of his book "The art of topiary". A lecture on topiary art will be given at 3:pm on the Saturday and Sunday. The topiary sculpted wil be auctioned off.. Regular admission prices.

Rendez-vous Jardins "The gardens and its creators National celebrations of the gardens, proposed by the French Ministry of Culture. Sunday, opened from 9:00am to 7:00 pm and sSaturday, candelit evening in the garden, until 10:30 pm to offer a different perspective on the grounds, shrubbery and groves. Medieval music entertainment in the gardens, with la Ménestraudie, saturday afternoon and sunday (singers, musicians and dancer) Présentation and signing of the book on the gardens of la Ballue, published by P.H. Verlhac. Regular admission prices.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL Second edition en 2013 of this festival, a chance to discover contemporary dance and its relationship to lanscape.The association Figure Project, created by the dancer and choreographer Latifa Lâabissi, proposes its programme "Wild Extension", a choreographic adventure in a rural setting. Sunday June 30, the festival "Extension sauvage"will come to the château de la Ballue to present major works from dance history as well more recents works - all danced in the gardens. Some of them will take place in the Green Theatre, a grassy grove which also serves as a theatrical space, a remarquable place of the gardens. Opéra Purcell Arma took on the daunting task of performing the entire oeuvre of Henry Purcell as part of the Summer Operas in Brittany, beginning in 2002. A Fairy Queen, a Tempest, King Arthur , the best of Purcell, Queen Mary, have been performed, thanks to the talent of the master flutist Frédérique Chauvet and her Barok Opéra Amsterdam playing this extraordinary music.(www.arma-opera.com) This year, the opéra of Purcell "DIDON AND ÉNÉE will be performed. Four singers and six baroc instrumentalists play, sing and guide the listener with humourous and narrative texts in French and english. Musical direction Frédérique Chauvet and Sybrand VanDer Werf direction. Ticket prices : Full price 25 €, reduced price 15 €, free for children under 10.

DAYS OF EUROPEAN PATRIMONY 2013 "1913-2013 : 100 YEARS OF PROTECTION" The gardens and the château of la Ballue, Historical Monuments of France, 17th century, will participate in this grand national celebration. Along with visits of the gardens and the exterior of the château, visitors may enjoy a special guided tour of the 17th century interior by the owners of the château. Regular admission prices.
