Briantais's park.
Bought in 1999, it used to be regular terrace gardens surrounding a manor house. Then the layout got looser under the influence of the Bülher brothers in the nineteenth century. Briantais's park now combines open and hidden scenes placed alongside curved alleys, i.e. a representation of the landscapers' styles who also designed Thabor garden in Rennes. Like in a theatre, the alleys represent a scenery : Solidor's Tower, the bay of Saint-Malo or the river ” Rance”. You will find a very varied herbaceous flora, several sorts of birds, a rich forest fauna.
The castle which we discover within the park (27 hectares)today was built from 1850, as a replacement of an old manor house of the XVIIth century which belonged to notables malouins shipowners. The family The Chamber becomes an owner in 1888.
Guy La Chambre a former Minister of State, Member of Parliament and the mayor of Saint-Malo thanks to whom the Corsair City was rebuilt after the second World War- lived there when he was young and when he was in politics. He died in 1978 and gave the house to the ”Association diocésaine” of Rennes. The domain then became a spiritual, cultural and intellectual centre for 20 years. It was bought by the City to illustrate its intentional direction towards a green town both in terms of ecology and culture (activities...).
